PART THREE:

Elements of Art & Principles of Design Digital Exploration

  1. Use one of the digital editing programs to complete:
  2. Choose 6 design elements and illustrate them using 2 - 5 shapes
  3. Each image should be 8.5 x 11 inches
  4. Use only black and white for the design
  5. Each image should have a title (can be in colour)
  6. Repeat elements (eg. size, shape, texture) across the 6 designs.

Can be done in Illustrator, using type tool and tools under it. (Type along a path, area fill), warp and mesh tool.

PART SIX
Create a digital vision board.
Choose a topic or create a board for a future career or life.
Create a folder and gather up images. Keep track of sources in a Google Doc or Word file.
Alternative: create an image using Photoshop, Gimp or PIXLR by dragging images into layers, resizing, cropping.

Free or Low Cost Alternatives to Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, a 'lite' version of Photoshop, can be purchased at a discount if you are a student. Other free alternatives are below:

 

 

  • SumoPaint    An excellent on-line image editor with layers, filter effects and lots of Photoshop type tools.

  • Paint.NET     Paint.NET has many of the same features as Photoshops, along with a user community and tutorials.

  • GIMP           GIMP also has many of the same features as Photoshop including layers and tools, and it can work in Photoshop format.

  • VCW VicMan’s Photo Editor   A handy photo editor with the usual tools such as cropping and adjustments. Includes a video tutorial.
  • PhotoScape   Less features than Photoshop but easier to use for those features that it does have.
  • Picassa           Lets your organize and perform basic edits to your images.
  • Picnik   An on-line photo editor with basic editing functions and a few more advanced ones such including filter effects.
  • Pixlr - use the Editor version
  • Google SketchUp
  • Blender - Free and Open 3D creation software
  • Augment - Augmented reality - free app to upload 3D models (register an education account)
