Answer the following questions in a Google Doc and submit through Google Classroom:
What is a self-portrait? What is a Portrait?
How can symbols and background enhance a portrait or self-portrait? Refer to the two portraits shown below when writing.
Are you going to draw a self-portrait or portrait of someone else? Who?
What symbols or special background could you use to enhance the message? Consider personality, style, interests, occupation, history, relationships and characters traits. Choose at least 3 of these and suggest one or more symbols for each.

Create 2 portraits with whatever supplies you have on hands.
Create a traditional portrait or self-portrait - face or full body in a fairly realistic style.
Create an abstract or symbolic portrait of the same person (or yourself). Optional: explore some of the links, below, for more ideas of styles and materials
Scan or photograph the images and turn in through Google Classroom.
Complete the Artist Statement, which will be a form off of Google Classroom (to be uploaded soon).
Who did you get? Research the artist and see what you might like about his or her style?
TO DRAW: The Top 100 People Positively Influencing Jewish Life, 2017
Here are interesting and diverse lists. The 2017 one is missing female academics (someone pointed this out to me). Unless you want to draw a self portrait or someone that you know with an interesting face, you can choose someone who you admire and draw their portrait. The pictures with the article are too small, so search on the name using Google Images and select "Tools" on the menu bar under the search box, Size, Larger than (2 mp).
